I Stand With Dreamers

I've known Maggie for about five years now. I'll never forget the way we met, we were both loners at the time struggling to find true friendship. We were both attending WNCC at the time trying to obtain our college degrees and so she messaged me on twitter (like a creeper) and asked about us hanging out. I was like who is this gorgeous girl and why does she want to be my friend, but I was dying for friends and so of coarse I said yes.

I invited her to a party that I was throwing at my house. She stopped by and immediately we just connected. We were having such a good time until the party got so out of hand the cops were called. All of a sudden Maggie looks at me with these concerned eyes (I had already had way to much to drink) and she said I can't get in trouble. I was like well duh, none of us can. haha. She said no really, I'm illegal, I'll be sent back to Mexico. I immediately started to panic! We held off the cops for as long as we could until, my boyfriend at the time, came up with a great idea to hide her and his brother up in the attic. Maggie hid in that attic for several hours, and I mean at least three to four hours until everyone was gone and all the cops had given us our mips. I'll never forget that night because it was the night that started our beautiful friendship, we have been best friends ever since. I would give my life for Maggie because she has such an incredible spirit, just because she wan't born in the United States doesn't mean she isn't of value to our country. She inspires me and the children she teaches in her classroom everyday.

Maggie came to the United States when she was three months old. Her parents came to America for a better life, for a life that didn't include poverty, drugs, and violence. I encourage you to remember before you decide to judge others remember you don't know what their walk of life has looked like.

I will be the voice for those who can't. I will vote for the one's who can't. I will stand with Dreamers. I hope this story reminds you that we are all HUMANS and that we should show love and compassion for one another.

The DACA was put into place to allow men and women here in the United States like Maggie to gain a work permit and allow her to go to college. We have been hearing upsetting news that they are not sure what is going to happen with DACA but I highly, highly encourage everyone to stand up for the Maggie's in the world and contact your local congressman to help support these dreamers.
