Its been an overwhelming last 24 hours. Last night I received a phone call from my brother, I could hear the panic in his voice, I told him to slow down so I could understand him. When I could finally understand him he had told me that my dad and stepmom were in the emergency room and that they had been hit while driving their motorcycle. I immediately went into panic mode as well as asking what I should do and if I needed to head back to Western Nebraska.
While they were out for a cruise on the motorcycle they approached an intersection with no stop signs. As they had the right away they began to pull out and half way through were hit by a car. My stepmom and dad were thrown off the back and are so lucky to be alive. Thankfully my dad was able to steer the wheel away so they didn't get as much of the brunt of the hit as they could have. My stepmom is pretty banged up with road rash on her side and a sore shoulder and my dad has a hole in his leg where they finally were able to get the bleeding to stop and a cracked rib.
Please, please have this be a reminder to have your undivided attention while driving. Too many of us are on our phones texting or on some sort of social media. We take our focus off of the road and unfortunate things can happen. I am so incredibly blessed that my parents can now see another day but others out there are not so lucky. I'm making a pack to myself to stay off of my phone and giving my attention to the road, I hope people start to follow suit.
With love,
